Tips to Starting a Home Business Alone (email 14)

Hey it’s my birthday today and I thought I would get out email 14 for you in my series as it is going to talk about something that was supposed to happen on my birthday August 20th, 2007.

After my first product launch that was so successful I decided it was time to prove to everyone I could make it all on my own and I started out the end of June 2007 working on my next product.

I knew what I wanted to do with it but was unsure what I really needed to do.I did my best to stop and think about what I had just done and decided I would follow the same kind of plan, except I would add a few other things into the mix.I also decided I was going to set a launch date of August 20th on my birthday.  Heck that should be easy enough, after all I just did a complete product launch in 3 weeks so 2 months should be a piece of cake right.

I started out writing emails to JV partners to let them know I wasn’t going any wheres and to ask them to mark August 20th 2007 down on their calendars as my next launch.

I started writing an eBook that ended up 140 some pages long filled with some real good content.

I actually have re-purposed that same content many times since then and have done very well with it.I lined up some more expert interviews and got them all recorded and ready to go.I decided I wanted to have a residual program set in place to bring in a monthly income like I was hearing was very important to my business.

I decided to do a coaching program but was a little worried I was not yet qualified as an expert enough to make people believe I was capable of teaching them. I began really doing a lot of self doubting on this which almost kept me from adding it into my package.

Well everything seemed to be rolling along except I could not figure out all of the tech stuff and it was driving me crazy.  But the product creation part I seemed to have down.  It was just all of the things that Keith had done in the background that I didn’t know or understand that was really holding me back.

I was kind of blindly trying to figure out all of the things he did.

I was also trying to save myself some money by writing my own sales copy and everyone that reviewed it for me kept doing a wonderful job of telling me it was really bad and would not convert.  What did they know anyways right?  That was my attitude at that time.

Well August 20th was drawing close very fast and I knew I was not going to make my deadline and I began to get really upset and frustrated with myself.I began to think I was a one hit wonder just like everyone thought I would be and I began to see my ship sinking fast.By the time August rolled around the bill collectors were on my back once again and I was pretty much right back in the same place I was before my first launch.

What was wrong with me.. Why couldn’t I do this by myself? What was different about the first launch and this one?

The only thing I could think of was it was because I had help from Keith and some other really awesome support from friends like Harris Fellman, Brian Edmundson, Ken McArthur, Alex Jeffreys, Sterling Valentine, Frank Sousa, and the  list just went on and on.

Finally it all started making sense to me.

That was the key.  Help and support.  Here I was trying to do it all by myself and it was just not working out.So if help and support was the key then that was what I needed, so I turned to Keith and my support friends.Keith was not really in a position to help out as much this time so I turned to a couple good guys like Harris Fellman and Brian Edmundson for some advice and I was surprised at how things started to develop very quick.

When I look back on things there were so many people offering to help me out.  Every day I would get emails from so many supporters asking how I was doing and asking if their was anything they could do for me.  I just had it in my mind that I could not accept help and that I needed to do it myself.

I think about the only thing I did get right during this time was that I joined a mastermind group with 3 amazing guys, Paul Counts, Phil Knaus, and Harry Fink.  All 3 of us met at a live event and became good friends.

We would call once a week and bounce ideas off from each other and do what we could to help each others business out.

Of course on my own I pretty much blew the date of August 20th as my launch date so I had to set another one of October 9th 2007.  This would be the date of my second Launch which was called The Millionaire Boss…

Let me tell you that it is not a good thing to set a date for a launch and then have to write your JV partners and tell them that it is not going as planned and that you have to change the date they already had scheduled on their calendars to help promote.

There will be times that things happen and this can’t be helped, but if all possible once you have a date set make sure it happens.

Well the launch went off on October 9th as planned and let me just say…that launch brought some interesting results that I bet you can learn a few lessons from.  I know I did.  I will share them with you next week.Paul Counts and I recently did a 30 day challenge for our Real Guys coaching we do with Eric Holmlund and I noticed something pretty amazing that really helps me validate what I want you to get from this email today. What I noticed from each one that completed the 30 day challenge or at least made a lot of progress was something very interesting.

Each one that achieved any kind of success all took part in the coaching calls and took advantage of all the help they could get.  They also supported one another and masterminded with each other all throughout the challenge.

They were helping each other. Some more than others but they all did what they could.

Building a business is not something you want to do alone.

Doing it alone will lead you to disappointment and feeling sorry for yourself very quickly.  You will get to a very low place that is hard to climb back out of.

I was at that low spot, but I woke up and reached back out for help before the titanic went completely under.

Many think they can’t afford help, but I want to say that my feeling is that you can’t afford not to have help.

But you have to be active and participating in the process.

You cant just look for help and expect your help to do it all for you.  Even done for you services will require your participation to build it and grow it into something that really will get results.

Next week I am going to share some more of the things I  learned through this second launch process.  Many things still went wrong and the launch was… well let’s just say it had some very different results than my first launch.

I will share with you some of the reasons why the results were so different and why I believe it is for some of the same reasons many other new product launches fail as well.

Adding Your Information To Clickbank. Affiliate Partner Advantage.

So the question presented to you in last weeks email #9 was
that, if the JV partners I had contacted that actually promoted
my product during the launch only brought in around $45,000 from
the front end, and the One Time Offer sales, and I did not have a
follow up email series in place to generate extra money, where did
the rest of the money come from.

Did you guess the answer?  Let’s find out!

I was pleasantly surprised to learn the answer to this as well.
When I seen it happening I couldn’t figure it out and had to ask
Keith what was going on.  I thought he was contacting more of his
partners for me.  That was not the case at all.

It was actually from affiliates that I never had contacted or heard of.

I put my product in the Clickbank marketplace and as the sales
were generated from my JV partners on launch day word started
getting around that my product was actually converting and others
began to jump on board to promote.

Basically it started going viral.

That is one of the benefits of making sure your product converts
the JV traffic they send into sales.

One thing I did not know about when we placed my product on
Clickbank is that Clickbank has;

Well over 100,000 active affiliates that are experience in
promoting niche products, and are looking and watching for products
in the Clickbank marketplace that are selling well and have the
capabilities of making them some good Affiliate commissions.

This and a good converting product, awesome converting sales copy, and
a pretty decent job of creating some buzz before my launch set things
into motion that generated my first 6 figure launch.

There are some disadvantages to Clickbank as well like a higher refund
rate, and a few others that you can do a quick Google search to find
out without me spending time to go into right now, but most of these
are very easily overcome by having a product that really helps and
provides excellent value to the customer.

OK, back to what was going on…

Not only were affiliates associated with Clickbank able to see that
the product was selling from the rising Gravity score when they searched
for my product in the Clickbank marketplace, but they also were paying
attention to my JV partners that were promoting my product.

Many of these Affiliates are on other top marketers list as well just
as you are.  They are seeing the massive email bombarding going out for
a product during any given launch.

You call it that week from hell when every marketer known to man is
sending out the same email and your email inbox is filled with the same
subject line asking you to buy the same product.

When your on the receiving end of all these emails you hate the launch
process and many times really vocalize your unhappiness. Yet at the same
time here you are striving to get to that very same place. The place where
you find yourself on the other side and everyone sending out emails for
your product launch.

Many people including possibly yourself get pretty sick and tired of
seeing all of these emails in their inbox.  But as an Affiliate with
the capabilities of competing against these big guys. I watch these
launches and look forward to these emails and so should you.

You see if a product is converting well you will see that most of
the JV partners will continue to hit the promotion pretty heavy all
throughout the launch.  If it is not converting the product launch emails
coming into my inbox usually slow down pretty rapidly.

If I see the product is continued to be promoted at a heavy pace and
others are jumping on, I will go sign up myself to check out the product
and promote if it looks to be a good fit for you.

Many people complain and un-subscribe from many lists because they
get way to many emails.

Well I use the many emails I get from all of the lists I am on as a
learning tool.

It helps me to see what others are doing and what seems to be working
and what is not working.  Sure there are some that I just do not make a
connection with that I find myself un-subscribing from, but I am very
careful in doing so, and so should you.

There is so much to learn about the launch process to ensure that
you have a successful launch.  We will continue to cover this subject
for the next few emails before we get into a very un-profitable 6 months
that followed my 6 figure launch.  You will not want to fall into the
same trap I did so I will do my best to guide you around it.

It is pretty exciting to watch as you strategically push your partners
to the point they are generating more sales for you by pushing the
competitive buttons that most of your JV partners have built within them.

JV Partner Launch Process Techniques (email # 9)

Using JV Partners For Maximum Launch Earning Potential.

Today we are going back to JV Partners and we are going to
talk about something pretty amazing that happened when one
of my JV partners asked me to do something that once again
had me a little un-easy.  Well let’s be honest here.

A little un-easy was not even close to describing what I was
going through when Tellman Knudson asked me to do a live
teleseminar with his list that would start 30 minutes before
the launch time which was 12 noon eastern May 22, 2007.

We were to get on the phone and he was going to interview
Keith and I about the product and what it would do for his

At Noon eastern when the launch went live he was going to end
the call by giving his list the URL which contained his
Affiliate Link and tell them to GO.

This is a very good tactic and I have seen it done many
times since.  It works very well.

Tellman was basically giving his list of subscribers a look
at who I was and a look at the product in a way that no other
JV partner was doing at the moment of the launch.

Everyone else either had a standard email recommending the
product through their Affiliate link, a video review of the
product such as the case of Michael Cheney, or a blog review
like Eric Holmlund did.

When the launch went live Tellman’s sales began to take off
at a rate that totally had me speechless.  He stayed in the
lead for the first 3 days until Keith and other Affiliates
like Eric Rockefeller started a bonus war going.

Each of the JV partners that really meant business began
adding bonus packages for their lists if they bought through
their link.

I know you have seen this before as it is nothing new. I
actually think it has gotten out of hand with several launches
since.  But it works.

The JV partner puts together a bonus offer that is relevant to
and compliments the product they are promoting.  Many times JV
partners fail at this because the bonus offer they use is not
even relevant to the product they are promoting.  If it does
not make sense in the mind of the customer they will not buy.

As the bonus offers started coming out My Son Keith soon over
took Tellman and he remained in the lead of the JV contest
the rest of the 4 days of the launch.

Other big marketers such as Mike Filsaime that had the
capabilities of running away with the whole contest with
just a couple mailings because of their list size did the
very minimum they had to do just to honor their word of saying
they would help promote.

Of course I was pretty grateful to everyone that participated
in my launch.

With the help of all my top JV partners I was able to generate
right around  $45,000 during my launch.

Now wait a minute.  I said My goal of $65,000 was met during
my launch and that I actually generated over $104,000 in the
first 30 days.  So if my JV partners that I had contacted that
actually promoted only brought in around $45,000 from front
end and the One Time Offer sales and I did not have a follow
up email series in place, where did the rest of the money
come from.

Well I was surprised to learn the answer to this as well.  When
I seen it happening I couldn’t figure it out and had to ask Keith
what was going on.

generated the rest of the sales that brought the total inching
towards the 6 figure mark that first week of the launch.
